Although Shelby and Superformance vehicles have been a part of the Woodward Dream Cruise for many years, 2010 marked the first year that Superformance and Shelby Distribution had an official presence at this legendary event.

One of the greatest classic and collector car events in the world – taking place right near the birthplace of the automotive industry in Detroit, Michigan – the Woodward Dream Cruise attracts tens of thousands of participants from all over the USA. They converge on this iconic roadway in the heart of Michigan for a week of driving, sharing, showing and partying.

The premier builder of Cobra replicas in the world, Superformance, along with the Superformance Owners Association, came to Woodward with a strong presence to support a good cause. Not only did Shelby and Superformance owners gather en force to demonstrate their support for the automobile hobby, but Superformance also made a charitable donation to support the Woodward Dream Cruise as well.

Despite bad weather all weekend long, the turnout was fantastic. Some estimates put the total attendance at over one million people, with some 30,000 hot rods, muscle cars, classics and other collectible cars participating in the Cruise.

Set up in a bank parking lot on Woodward just south of Big Beaver in Bloomfield Township, the Superformance team hosted more than two dozen customer cars, safely parked in the shelter of the company's big rig transporter. Customers were quick to help Todd Andrews of Superformance field questions from the hundreds of people streaming through the display looking for more information.

"We've got 25 of us here from our car club, people from Canton and Grand Rapids and all over," said Larry Martinson, 60, of Bay Village, Ohio, west of Cleveland.

Of notable mention was Superformance MKIII owner Mike Meguiar, who had to clear a couple of huge trees that had fallen in his yard during the storms, but still managed to get his car and himself to the cruise on Saturday. The Superformance owners really love their cars. For some of the owners it was the first time they had driven their cars in the rain, but they wouldn't dream of missing the event, and the cars didn't seem to mind the rain at all.

It was the first official Superformance and Shelby Distribution visit to Woodward, but probably not the last, as the owner support and customer interest made it a memorable Dream Cruise.
