Superformance is renowned for its gorgeous GT40 continuation cars, and its latest creation celebrates one of the most historic Le Mans victories of all time: the Ford GT40, chassis P1075, that famously won the 1969 24 Hours of Le Mans. Only 50 examples of the special edition GT40 are being produced, each featuring the same chassis design as the original 1969 Le Mans car and P1000 continuation numbers.
More than 90 percent of the parts are interchangeable with an original GT40, and the project has been coordinated by John Sadler of Safir GT40 Spares, who holds the GT40 trademark. The chassis is an exact replica of the original and is "stiffer than any other chassis on the market” thanks to the use of laser-cut or bent and pressed parts.
To make it just as comfortable on the street as it is on the track, the Superformance GT40 features some modern upgrades including an adjustable pedal box, Wilwood disc brakes, and H&R springs with Bilstein dampers in the suspension setup.
For added authenticity, Superformance is also offering the car with a "Tool Room Reconfiguration” pack "that mechanically replicates how these winning cars were raced and can be homologated for sanctioned historic racing.” This option will include Lexan windows, racing tanks, and livery graphics. As a bizarre bonus, the Reconfiguration upgrade also adds a VIN number matching Gulf Racing Series guitar.
The car won’t come with an engine or transmission, but Superformance recommends either the Ford-based 289, 302, or 351W small block engines paired with a RBT/ZF style five-speed transaxle. Before engine and transmission purchase and installation, the special edition will cost $179,995 for the standard car, and $209,900 for the GT40 plus the Tool Room Reconfiguration.
